The Browser that Wouldn't Die

To join your crusade to end usage of ie6 there is now a website to help your cause.  It is:

ie6 Countdown

and it will show you ie6 usage stats, how to join the cause, how to educate your friends and code to use on your website to inform your users that they have an old browser and to encourage them to upgrade.

I was a bit surprised about the world ie6 usage:

Only 2.9 % in the US?  Really?  It is funny, because my day job uses ie6 exclusively.  And we're a pretty large company.  My experience in the industry tells me that companies are very slooooooooooooow to adopt new technology.  I guess we're just that behind.  But still, I would have expected a higher number for the US.

I'm a little on the fence about that code to inform your users they have an old browser, though.  I mean, I'm stuck with it at work.  I no longer have any control over what browser is used here, so I'm at the mercy of IT.  Personally, if I had my druthers, we'd be running Firefox or Chrome.  But alas, no one listens to me.  So, it is highly irritating when I'm at work and every friggin site I go to has a big warning slapped in my face: "HEY, MORON!  YOU'RE, LIKE, USING A 10 YEAR OLD BROWSER.  UPGRADE, ALREADY, DUH!"

No fake, Jake. I know.  I'll call up IT and tell them to get on that.  Thanks.  I'll tell them to upgrade my Office 2003 and Windows XP Pro while I'm at it too.  I'm sure they'll come running.  After they have themselves a good "Nick the Company Computer Guy" (SNL, anyone?) laugh at my expense.

UPDATE:  At least this one is all rainbows and happy clouds:

Maybe I'll start a collection of all of the different warnings I get.

UPDATE 3-8:  Here's one that includes the slightly snarky "please download a modern browser."
